Jason Boyer

Steve McCausland

Steve McCausland "The Doctor" is the general manager and one of the owners of Frederick Fight Club. In 1991 Steve began his martial arts career in Burmese Bando. He studied under Bando masters Lon Walls, Gene Johnson, Errol Younger and Dr U Maung Gyi. The guys on Steve’s team were all fighters and the training was unforgiving. Safety equipment like shin pads, groin protection and mouth guards were a luxury these guys knew nothing about. Ray Jones, Mike Hoefler, Dwayne House and Jason Boyer were some of the fighters of this generation.

 

Steve won his division in the 1992 National Bando Kickboxing Championship. He later pursued a golf career in the PGA and was very successful. Steve was the first PGA Certified Teaching Professional in the State of Maryland. He has been one of the most sought after golf Instructors in the Mid-Atlantic for over 10 years. His ability to teach students with passion and develope new and exiting methods makes him a huge asset to the Club. Steve eventually came back and re-claimed his title at the 2006 National Bando Kickboxing Championship.

 

Steve is an adjunct Professor at Frederick Community College. 

Steve is a Kick boxing Instructor and the head conditioning coach at the Fight Club, Steve is an Athletic Trainer and a Master Golf Fitness Instructor. He is also a Certified Combat Sports Fitness Trainer / Instructor and holds the rank of Black Sash in the brutal art of Lethwei.

Wayne Disney

 

Wayne Disney is the head boxing trainer at the Fight Club and he has been a true student of the game all his life.  In addition to being an accomplished competitor, Coach Disney has a long decorated coaching career in the Frederick area. He has coached a wide spectrum of people including Golden Glove champions and pro fighters.  Through his exceptional boxing ability, positive attitude and unmatched dedication to the betterment of others, Coach Disney has made an invaluable contribution to the people of Frederick over the past several years.

Vicente Jr

 

Professor Vicente, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion, is the De La Riva Jiu Jitsu of Delaware head instructor. Professor Vicente is a direct Ricardo De La Riva second degree black belt, and has been involved in Jiu Jitsu for over 17 years. To note, Professor Vicente has 14 years of Judo ,and holds the rank of brown belt. Professor Vicente is an active global competitor; taking medals in highly regarded competitions. Before coming to Delaware, Professor Vicente is accreditated for being resposible for spreading the De La Riva style of Jiu-Jitsu throughout the Northeast of Brazil. Vicente has also given seminars throughout the world.

Here is a highlight of Professor Vicente accomplishments:

* 4th Place in the World Championship of Jiu-Jitsu 2006 , for CBJJ, Rio De Janeiro, Adult Feather Division.
* Responsible for, the Social Arm Project in Brazil.

Kyle Sefcik

 

Kyle Sefik is a very skilled MMA instructor and we are proud to have him.  His training includes several years of experience under Pedro Sauer, Mario and Fernando Yamasaki and Otis Berry.  He has also trained with MMA Superstars such as BJ Penn, Royce Gracie, Aaron Riley, Urijah Faber and Nissen Osterneck.

 

Kyle’s sports background includes a long history of competitive football, basketball and baseball.  He even went on to compete at the collegiate level.  His high level of athleticism becomes obvious to anyone who trains with him.

 

Kyle’s martial arts training started in Krav Maga.  From there, he branched out to Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, Boxing, MMA and most recently- Lethwei.

 

Kyle is a certified Crossfit instructor.  His pedigree combined with a great eye for the fighting arts have allowed him to adapt many of the Crossfit techniques and principles into cage specific training exercises and MMA methodology.

 

Kyle is what we in the business refer to as the quintessential gym rat.  On any given day, Kyle can be found in one of several gyms in the area seeking out the best competition just so he can stay on the top of his game.  He is currently looking at a few possible opponents for an upcoming MMA fight.

Matt Handsman

 

Coach Handsman has been competing and coaching for ten years. He is a forth degree Purple Belt under Pedro Sauer. He cross trains in both Gi and no Gi Jiu-Jitsu as well as Judo, Muay Tai, Lethwei, Shoot wrestling, and specialized combat submission wrestling under Eric Paulson. His grappling career includes medals in Grapplers Quest, NAGA, and Copa/ Atlantica events. Matt has a no-nonsense approach to teaching. His simple and thorough techniques make him one of the favorite instructors at the Fight Club. Coach Handsman is available for private instruction.

Andrew Goldfarb

 

Andrew has been involved in the study and practice of martial arts since 1985. He began with MuayThai, Kali/Eskrima and Bando under the tutelage of Pat Finley, Professor at Howard County Community College in Columbia, Maryland.  During that time he was introduced to Jeet Kune Do and Pen Jak Silat.  During the 1990s he studied Judo, Fencing and Wing Chun.  He has since focused on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Lethwei, Shoot Wrestling, Bando, Greco-Roman Wresting and Western Boxing. He began studies under Roberto “Maguilla” De Silva in February of 2006 and received a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in late 2007. He is aggressively pursuing a Purple belt. He trains regularly with Ken Stephens and Jason Boyer, owners and instructors of the Frederick Fight Club and frequently with Joshua Peters, owner and instructor of Capital Punishment in Rockville, Maryland. He has been a member of Frederick Fight Club since a month after the doors opened and an instructor since July 2009.

Chris Bower

Barry Bowie

Barry Bowie is one of Frederick Fight Club's premere boxing coaches.  Coach Bowie started his boxing career in 1980.  He trained in various gyms across the country while serving in the US Army and was a member of the Fort Bragg Boxing Team in North Carolina.  As an accomplished competitor he began coaching Frederick's youth with great success in 1991.  He has a great eye for detail and the ability to successfully adapt styles to best fit different types of boxers with different types of attributes.

 

In 1981 Coach Bowie began studying Tae Kwon Do.  From there he would go on to compete in point tournaments and full-contact kickboxing bouts.

 

In 1979 Coach Bowie joined the United States Army and served for 6 years as an infantry combat soldier.  He attended many tactical schools in relation to his position.  The management and staff of Frederick Fight Club recognize and honor Coach Bowie's service to our country.

 

From 1989 to 1991 Coach Bowie volunteered as a Gaurdian Angel in New York City, working out of their headquarters.  He is still works in the security field today.

 

Coach Bowie always has a positive attitude and demeanor.  He is one of those guys who motivates everyone in the room, making training fun for everyone.  We are very proud to have him as a coach.

Jason Minnick

 

Coach Minnick is an invaluable part of the training team at Frederick Fight Club.  He is an advanced practitioner holding a black sash in the brutal art of Lethwei.  In the ring, his level of fighting is no less than world class.  Out of the ring, he is an experienced coach dedicated to making our best even better.  You'll often find Coach Minnick putting himself in harms way and taking the physical abuse from those getting ready to fight just so he can make sure that they really are "ready to fight."  He is a sparring partner for pro boxers and kickboxers alike.  Coach Minnick is not only Jason Boyer's top student but he is also his training partner. Coach Minnick is available for personal lessons.
